Dianda Talks About Jail Inadequacies

In the wake of the escape of an inmate from the Houghton County Jail, ways to prevent this from happening again are being looked at.

State Representative Scott Dianda says he has recently spoken to the Sheriff about problems concerning the jail facility.

Dianda says though there’s not a lot of extra money to build brand new jails…the inherent problems with the aging facilities need to be addressed.

A measure to build an expanded jail was voted down a few years ago.
