A state board could give a thumbs up or thumbs down Thursday to two groups that want to legalize recreational marijuana in the state.
The State Board of Canvassers at their meeting in Lansing will review proposed language for ballot proposals from the Michigan Cannabis Coalition and the Michigan Comprehensive Cannabis Law Reform Committee.
One proposal would tax retail sales at 10 percent and allow residents to grow up to 12 plants at home.
The other would allow the legislature to set the amount pot would be taxed and create licenses for both cultivation and retail facilities.
If they get the okay, then the groups can start collecting signatures to place the questions on the November, 2016 ballot.
