Faith-Based Adoption Bills Head To Snyder

Faith-based adoption agencies that receive state money could turn away parents who want to adopt if there are conflicts with the agencies religious beliefs.

The series of bills passed the Michigan Senate Wednesday, with one of the bills having to clear the House for a second time later in the day.

State Senator Curtis Hertel says the bills not only discriminate against gay couples but also parents who are divorced, like himself.

But Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof says the measures just reinforce what is already being done.

The bills now await the governor’s signature. He’s currently reviewing the legislation.
