MLB – Tigers Snap Losing Streak
The Detroit Tigers broke their eight-game losing streak with a decisive 7-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox last night. David Price threw a complete game, giving up just five hits. Detroit put the game away with five runs in the fifth inning, powered by a two-run homer from Miguel Cabrera. Tigers batters pounded out 18 hits.
The Tigers wrap up that series against the White Sox at Chicago this afternoon. Alfredo Simon will start against Jeff Samardzija. Hear the first pitch at 2:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
Justin Verlander struck out nine batters over 5-2/3rds innings in his second rehab start for the Toledo Mud Hens last night. Verlander allowed an unearned run on four hits. Barring any complications, he could rejoin the Tigers’ rotation later this week. Reliever Bruce Rondon did not fare as well in that game, giving up four runs on four hits and three walks, and taking the loss. Rondon has struggled to return to form after missing last season with Tommy John surgery, and this season with biceps tendinitis.
Ryan Braun homered, as the Milwaukee Brewers shut down the Minnesota Twins 4-2 last night. Matt Garza earned the win, with seven innings of one-run ball.
Milwaukee concludes that series at Minnesota this afternoon. Mike Fiers will start against Mike Pelfrey.
