The sexual assault trial of a former Calumet hockey player continued yesterday in Windsor. Ben Johnson is charged with accosting a young woman in a bathroom stall at the Krooked Kilt bar in January of 2013. Yesterday, Johnson’s attorney cross-examined the alleged victim’s girlfriend, who testified that the two had gone to the restroom together. The Windsor Star reports that he asked about inconsistencies in the initial report that was filed about the case. The girlfriend admitted that the alleged victim is initiating a civil lawsuit against Johnson. Later, a bartender from the Krooked Kilt testified that Johnson and several teammates from the Windsor Spitfires hockey team were at the bar that night, and were unruly. He said that, after that night, the group did not return to the bar in the five months he continued to work there. At the time of the alleged assault, he said was distracted by a fight that had begun outside the bar.
