Keeping drivers and passengers safe all summer long is the goal of a new campaign launched by the Michigan Office Of Highway Safety Planning.
The “Michigan Summer of Safety” effort allows local police departments, sheriff’s offices and State Police to decide how and when to conduct federally-funded seat belt and impaired driving enforcement through Labor Day.
This campaign will be in addition to regular “Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It Or Ticket” holiday enforcement over the Fourth of July and Labor Day holidays.
It responds to research that shows 40-percent of traffic fatalities and serious injuries in 2014 occurred in May, June, July and August.
