Women Must Be Notified Of Dense Breast Tissue

Beginning Monday, women in Michigan will get more information about their breast cancer risks.

Governor Rick Snyder signed a law in January making Michigan the 25 state to require that women are notified if their mammogram finds they have dense breast tissue, which make it more difficult to spot a tumor and slightly increases their risk of cancer.

Dr. Evita Singh, a radiologist with St. John Providence Health System, said having dense breast tissue increases risk by only a “minuscule” amount, but women who have the condition should ask their doctors if there is a reason for concern.
