The Western U.P. Farm to School programs makes grant funds available to farmers in 2025.
Last week the Western UP Farm to School program announced it will offer grant opportunities to local food producers to support food safety and increase direct ales with local schools.
The grant award, worth 500 dollars, is available to farmers and food producers in Baraga, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Keweenaw, and Ontonagon counties. Awards support farmers to afford training, certifications, equipment, and infrastructure improvements to align with providing safe and healthy food to schools in the region.
Project Manager Rachel Pressley says by supporting food safety upgrades with farms, the program can help businesses grow while adding fresh food to school meals.
