Michigan Tech graduate housing unit a total loss

Michigan Technological University has lost one structure to a fire. On Friday, between 10 and 11 am, Michigan tech public safety and local fire departments responded to a fire emergency at 2109 Woodmar Avenue. The graduate housing unit was home to two student residences. No injuries were reported in the incident. Michigan Tech Public Safety has begun an investigation into the cause of the fire.

Michigan Technological University officials state the structure has been deemed a total loss. An adjacent structure also suffered smoke damage during the incident. Students living at 2109 Woodmar Avenue will permanently move to new housing on campus. Students living at 2107 will temporarily move until the unit has been cleaned and determined livable. The university will work with the Red Cross of America to support students during this time.
