Obituary: Elwood A. Narhi

Elwood A. Narhi, 87, a resident of Painesdale, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Bayside Village in L’Anse where he was a resident patient.
 
He was born on August 15, 1937, in Suo District, MI, a son of the late Sulo and Sophie (Belttari) Narhi.  As a child his family moved to Painesdale and Elwood graduated from Jeffers High School.  He then attended and graduated from Michigan Technological University. 
 
Mr. Narhi was a veteran having served with the United State Army on two different occasions.
 
Following the service Elwood worked for a short time in Washington, DC with the Food and Drug Administration before returning to make his home in Painesdale.
 
Preceding him in death were his parents, his brothers: Lloyd and Erland, his brothers-in-law: Andrew Phillips, Einard Huuki and Roy Raatikka; his niece and her husband Doreen and John Thibeau.
 
Surviving are:
                  His brothers: Sheldon (Eda) Narhi of Houghton
                                                      Clyde (Joanne) Narhi of Superior, WI
                  His sisters: Sandra Raatikka of Houghton
                                                      Audrey (Tim) Viola of Chassell
                                                      Laila Phillips of Bay City, MI
                  Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
 
A private graveside service with military honors for Elwood will be held later this year in the Mt. View Cemetery of South Range.
 
Elwood’s family would like to thank the staff of Bayside Village in L’Anse for the care given to him during his stay. They also would like to thank the many friends and neighbors that looked out for and helped Elwood over the years.
