College Basketball

The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team will add a Marquette High School standout next year. Jacob MacPhee is a 6-6 forward, with a career average of 17.7 points, 13.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game for the Sentinels. 

Huskies’ guard Marcus Tomashek has been named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. Tomashek scored 30 points in Tech’s upset of Wisconsin-Green Bay last Wednesday.

NBA

The Pistons held off the Lakers 117-114 last night. Detroit didn’t score in the last three minutes of the game, as L.A. began to claw their way back from an 11-point deficit. LeBron James missed a three-pointer at the buzzer that would have forced overtime. Malik Beasley led Detroit with 21 points. Cade Cunningham had 20 points and 10 assists.

The Pistons visit the Kings Thursday.

NHL

The Red Wings dropped their third straight game, with a listless 4-0 loss to the Blues last night. Cam Talbot took the loss in net.

The Wings host the Maple Leafs Friday, with coverage at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL

Last night, the Packers humbled the Saints 34-0. It was the first shutout of the season for any team in the NFL, and it clinched a berth in the playoffs for Green Bay. Josh Jacobs gained 107 yards rushing and receiving, and scored a touchdown. The Packers’ defense held the New Orleans offense, which played without injured quarterback Derek Carr and running back Alvin Kamara, to just 196 yards.

The Tigers have brought in another pitching hopeful. Jordan Balazovic is a former Twins prospect, who split last season between the Triple-A St. Paul Saints and the Doosan Bears in the Korea Baseball Organization. It’s a minor league deal with a spring training invitation.
