Keweenaw Bay Indian Community receives a $7.1 Million HUD PRICE grant to support manufactured housing improvements and developments

The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community receives 7.1 million dollars to support manufactured home construction. The tribe announced on Thursday that it will receive a 7.1 million dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Preservation and Reinvestment Initiative for Community Enhancement program.

The funds are part of a 225 million dollar nationwide effort to stabilize and enhance a critical level of the country’s housing stock. Manufactured housing accounts for approximately seven percent of occupied homes in communities across the United States.

The funds will support the development of new lots, replace aging infrastructure upgrade essential systems within the community, and provide housing support. KBIC President Doreen Blaker says the community is grateful for the HUD PRICE grant award that will provide vital repairs to mobile homes, ensuring safe and comfortable living conditions for tribal homeowners. Additionally, the grant will support improvements for the community’s future manufactured home development.

The HUD PRICE grant program received more than 40 applications from tribal governments in the United States. Those interested in learning more about the 7.1 million dollar HUD PRICE grant the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community will receive can find more details here.
