Baraga County’s neighborhoods have already been lit up with Christmas lights. But L’Anse still needs to light the Christmas tree on the waterfront. The village will invite families to the annual parade, and children to meet the big guy with the big red slay. As well as help raise funds for a good cause. 2024 Light up Baraga County in L’Anse has a lot of great plans for Saturday says Baraga County Convention and Visitor Bureau executive director Barb Mcewen.
It’s going to bring you here a little bit longer. There are more events for the kids, and more events for the adults, just to get people out in the boat through the community. And it’s a good reason to be out there for it. It’s a nice fundraiser for them, to the kids for the scholarship funds. And there’s going to be cake walks and decorating, face painting, it’s ornaments, stuff like that. Hot dogs and just visiting Santa, a lot to do that day. – Executive Director Barb Mcewen
Unlike typical parades says Mcewen, the annual Christmas parade welcomes more families from the area dressing up and living the Christmas spirit. The tradition has become a major family event for many in the area, adding that the visitor bureau has taken many calls before lighting up Baraga County for groups registering for the parade.
We ended up, there was a little delay, so the big rigs coming down the hill were a little late and everybody started leaving. Well, it was just to see that whole thing, all the bright lights coming down the hill, it was something. Everybody just stopped in their tracks to watch it. It was breathtaking. Everybody got pictures of it. It was just, that little delay kind of helped us more than anything because we got to focus on the big rigs and the bigger event coming down the hill. – Executive Director Barb Mcewen
Light UP Baraga County will host a fundraiser in honor of Nannie Beck and Kevin Hammala at the American Legion Post and Scotty Pub from noon to 3 pm. Then the village will close the streets at 5 pm before the parade at 5:30 pm.
After the parade attendees can check out open skating at Meadowbrook Arena and the tree lighting ceremony at 6:30 pm. Find more information about Light Up Baraga County here.
