Glad Tidings Church raises funds for Hancock Police Department Emergency Trauma Kits

For the past seven years, Glad Tidings Church has chosen a local cause to fund raise for. After the Hancock Police Department recently assisted Glad Tidings with an active shooter drill, Pastor TJ Stauffer found out while talking with Police Chief Tami Sleeman that the department needed emergency trauma packs.

Any time that you’re going to be hosting, responsible for people in any way, especially with childcare in any of its forms, it’s like, yeah, do the best you can to make it as safe as you can. For us, the active shooter drill, that’s mainstream for the schools. A lot of bigger businesses in town do training like that. And we felt like as a church, we wanted to do a better job of being safer and being more aware. And that shows you how much you depend on the police. – TJ Stauffer, Head Pastor, Glad  Tidings Church

That became an awareness that, hey, Hancock could use this. And we thought, well, let’s see if we can do it. Because we wanted to do something. We wanted to do something and so that became a tangible item, that they need. So let’s do it. Let’s be a blessing to the police. Let’s provide this for them. And it couldn’t be any more useful than an emergency medical kit, or trauma kit. So we’re just happy to do it. – TJ Stauffer, Head Pastor, Glad  Tidings Church

Police are often the first responders to any emergency and will act quickly in a medical emergency to stop excessive bleeding.

Sometimes people call them jump kits that can incorporate everything within the squad car into one pack so they can just grab it and run, they have everything in there. They already have an AED, they already had certain first aid supplies, and so we’re purchasing a series of packs that are going to allow them to consolidate everything into one pack that they can just grab and run to the scene and everything in there. Secondly, we’re updating a lot of their trauma kits. So the basics of having a tourniquet, chest seals, hemostatic gauze, nasal cannula, emergency heating blankets, a variety of just really needed, critical bleed intervention supplies. We want to make sure that every squad car has and as best as we can make sure every officer has as well. – TJ Stauffer, Head Pastor, Glad  Tidings Church

Glad Tidings Church hopes to raise $1800 to purchase trauma kits that the Hancock police department will store in each cruiser. Stauffer says the kits will be ordered sometime in the next week and arrive in time for National Law Enforcement Day on January 9th.

This police effort, every dollar that we get is going right to the police department and providing this for them. And so we encourage people if this is something that they have a passion for as well, to consider giving to that cause. January 12th is our honor of the police worship service that is going happen here. The police department is going be present and we’re going do everything we can as a congregation to celebrate them and appreciate them. If you’d like to be a part of that Sunday, come and be present, you’re welcome. We do live stream our services so you can participate in that through live stream as well. – TJ Stauffer, Head Pastor, Glad  Tidings Church

On the 12th after the New Year, the congregation invites the community to attend an honorary ceremony for the Hancock Police Department. Learn more about the Glad Tidings Emergency Trauma Kit Fundraiser for the Hancock Police Department here.
