The Herman Gundlach Donor Advised Fund supports 30 local non-profits with 2024 awards

The Keweenaw Community Foundation announces the Herman Gundlach Donor Advised Fund will support 30 non-profit organizations in 2024. On Friday the Keweenaw Community Foundation announced the Herman Gundlach Fund’s 2024 grant awards will split 56,000 dollars among 30 local non-profit organizations working in the Copper Country. The awards include 35,000 dollars specifically supporting local food pantries.

The Herman Gundlach Donor Advised Fund was established to cement the philanthropic legacy of Herman Gundlach who committed to a life of helping the Keweenaw Peninsula. The fund supports a variety of causes in the region including the Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter Home, Bay Cliff Health Camp, the Calumet Theatre Company, Copper Country Humane Society, the Dan Schmidt Gift of Music, the Keweenaw Family Resource Center, Let’s Eat Community Meals, Omega House, Simple Kindness for Youth, Up Kids and many others.

Gundlach’s daughter, Julie Gundlach says of her father he wouldn’t have considered himself a philanthropic person because generosity was a responsibility rooted in his central values.
