On short notice, the Copper Country raises over 3,000 dollars to support Laurium’s DPW recovery efforts. Last week the Lake Linden – Hubbell Schools music department worked with area schools, and the Michigan Technological University music department to quickly organize a benefit concert for their neighbors in Laurium. The concert gathered many students from the local area and residents from nearby communities inside the Calumet Theatre. The free concert asked attendees to make a small donation in support of Laurium’s work to rebuild its Department of Public Works. In total, the community raised 3,200 dollars. Laurium Village Manager Ian Lewis thanked the Copper Country for its continued support and announced a SnoGo arrived at the temporary DPW garage last week. The village expects two more loaders will arrive this week.
